About Brad....

Occupation/ Work: Knoxville police officer

Brad has worked as a police officer for the City of Knoxville for 15 years. He currently works as a patrol sergeant in the west sector.

Three Reasons to Vote for Brad....

  1. I believe the first thing we need to do is restore trust in Knox County Government and I am willing to ask tough questions to make sure we are doing the right thing.  I think we need to follow up on issues from the past that need to be corrected and not repeated. I am willing to roll up my sleeves and work hard on this issue.

  2. I will conduct all my Commission business with openness and integrity. I will have monthly open meetings in the district so citizens can come give their opinion and meet with their commissioner. I would hope that the other district commissioner would attend as well as other representatives from the County Government.

  3. I will not be aligned with any “factions” that we currently have. If I agree with Mayor Ragsdale on one issue it does not mean I will not agree with Scott Moore on another issue. Commissioners need to make choices based on what is best for the District they serve and the County as a whole. I am not looking to build a political base or becoming a career politician.

Brad's Thoughts On......

Knox County Schools:

I believe we have a good school system, but I do not think we should be satisfied. We should be thinking outside the box, such as the Academy approach at Hardin Valley. We should strive to be the best school system in the state and be a model for others to follow.

We, as a commission, should be very concerned as to how the school district is spending tax dollars and we should work hand in hand to see to it that we provide the best possible environment for our teachers to teach and our students to learn.

The most pressing issue is to find the best candidate for Superintendent and surround him/her with the best staff we can.

Property Taxes:

Before we talk about raising taxes we need to make sure we clear up wasteful spending. Many issues need to be considered before we increase spending or increase the property tax rate. When a Government raise taxes it causes people to spend less money therefore hurts the economy. We must first look at spending and efficiency before we look at raising property taxes.

Development:

There are varying feelings on development and I think we, as a County, need to have positive development in order to continue to make progress.  There must be development to create jobs, new homes, and development broadens the tax base.
However, Government must take precautions when allowing development so that we are certain that it is in accordance with all laws and regulations.  This can be a very sensitive subject because there is almost always someone else affected when a property is being developed.  Commission must take steps to make sure the development in the County is done correctly with as little negative impact as possible.

Environment:

I believe the County must set the standard in leading citizens to take measures to protect the environment. We should encourage recycling and consider tax breaks for waste companies who recycle.

We also need to take measures in lowering our negative air quality days so the EPA does not have to set our County policy on clean air standards.  We must do all we can as a local Government to keep the Federal Government from having to monitor any of our policies.
