Three Reasons to Vote for Thomas...

  1. Experience  -   Leadership experience in business, the military, and dealing with governmental bodies, both legislative and regulatory, at the state and national level.  Experience in relating to, dealing with and responding to all age groups, from children to senior citizens.  Experience in participating as a member of governing bodies of several non-profits at the local, state and national level.  None of whom are funded by Knox County.

  2. Knowledge -  I have a broad knowledge of science, history, management, leadership,  and human relations.  After the murder of my son on the University of Tennessee Campus in 1988, I acquired a broad knowledge in governmental processes and how to get things done within the system including legislation at both the state and national level.

  3.  Honesty and Integrity -  I do what I say I will do.  30 years as a military officer and 35+ years teaching honesty, integrity, duty, honor and love of country as a Boy Scout leader attests to my integrity.  My word is my bond.

 Thoughts On...

Knox  County Schools:

W  We have some of the best schools in the state of Tennessee but, we can do better.  The County Commission should establish the “Vision” for Knox County education and identify the “Community Values” to be applied in development of a plan to meet the Vision.  County Commission should provide adequate funding for implementation of the resulting plan, developed by the School Board, for achieving the “Vision”.  I do not mean it should rubberstamp the School Board plan.  County Commission should have oversight of School Board activities and approve the plan for achieving the “Vision” consistent with the funds available to meet the plan.

Property Taxes:

·      Property tax rates should remain constant.  Frequent reassessments recognizing both positive and negative events that affect property values are necessary to maintain an adequate tax base.

 Development:

Planned and controlled development is essential to our growing Knox County economy.  Infrastructure planning must be included in the plan.  Additional taxes on Developers should be avoided or development will be hampered.  New jobs depend on a balanced robust development of the County.

Environment:

·       We must protect our environment and encourage recycling.  Enforcement of environmental  regulations and code enforcement of building must be maintained at a high and effective level.   A better and more comprehensive recycling plan should be developed in conjunction with our manufacturing industry and construction industry.  Additionally we need to improve air quality so we will not end up in the long run as a  non-attainment zone which will stifle growth and development.
