About Richard.....
Three Reasons to Vote for Richard... 1. A strong understanding
of how local and state government works. The ability and know how to
get things done for the district and a 30 year record of being involved in
our community; 2. A deep interest in our
school system. My children are both products of the Knox County
system as am I and I believe strongly in public education. 3. A long history of
working with bonds and financing mechanisms. Served as Chair and
member of the Knox County Industrial Board for 16 years. Dealt with
all types of municipal financing. Richard's Thoughts On.... Knox County schools: Good but can be better. More innovative technology,
new techniques and training for teachers. We absolutely have to be
able to provide a competent workforce or we will not be able to attract
new good paying jobs. Property Taxes: Reasonable and need to stay that way. New methods of
operating government and additional innovative revenue sources need to be
on the front burner. Partnering with other governments in the region
has to be explored in many areas. Development: Has to be monitored and environmentally friendly. We have to continue to expand our tax base and we also have to be acutely aware of our neighborhoods and the environment and how we affect them. There are many new Low Impact Development (LID) techniques that are included in the recently adopted Stormwater Ordinance that I was a part of for over 2 years on the Committee. The EPA has praised our new Ordinance in several areas. Environment: We truly live in a beautiful part of the United States.
Mild climate, great natural beauty, a magnificent National Park and
abundant opportunities for recreation, etc. We have to improve how
we manage our environment. Geographic conditions are not ideal so we
have to be aggressive and creative to maintain a quality environment.
