Three Reasons to Vote for Elaine...

  1.  I will be an independent voice. I have no political, business or familial ties to Knox County government. I am running to restore trust and integrity to the office of commission. Being a county commissioner is not a career goal for me: creating effective policy change for the betterment of our community is. While serving I will base my decisions of what is the best for the community-for the citizens of Knox County-not on personal or partisan interests.

  2. I have been vetted by the public. I ran as a write-in candidate for Knox County Commission, District 4, Seat B, in the May 2006 primary. I received 50% of the vote to be placed on the August 2006 General Election Ballot in which I received 47% of the vote. I had a grassroots campaign and we worked hard to reach out to the 4th District.  Our success was demonstrated by the numbers and this showed that I connected with the voters in a genuine fashion despite being an unknown.

  3. I have a discerning approach to decision-making and I listen.

Elaine's Thoughts On....

Knox County Schools:

We are at a critical crossroads. Education must be a priority if we do not want our community to become stagnant and instead desire a thriving community with a competitive workforce. Commission plays an integral role in the success of our school system.

Property Taxes:

While they are inherently necessary, I am in favor of the recent property tax freeze for seniors.

Development:

I believe that it is important to take inventory: of where we are, and where we want our community to be, and how we want our community to look and feel. Incorporating design elements and strategic planning into the development process is essential if we are to maintain an economically sound, environmentally friendly and sustainable community.

Environment:

I would like to see Knox County government follow the footsteps of city leaders in creating a task force similar to the Sustainability Task Force that addressed areas of the city's energy footprint. We must incorporate air quality, water quality, and our environmental impact into the equation in order to be good stewards and preserve the natural beauty of our region.
