Reasons to Vote for Pete...

I Pete Drew, would make an effective commissioner because...

  1. I clearly understand that the office belongs to the people of the First District.

  2. I have the experience as an elected official and public office that will allow me to begin serving effectively on day one.

  3. I have a documented history of effective leadership and accomplishments for the community.

Pete's Thoughts On...

Knox County Schools:

I think the search for a Superintendent should have been limited to the state of Tennessee. Superintendents are very important to provide direction, supervision, etc.; but it is the teachers who directly influence and teach the students.

The number one factor in teaching students is to have high standards and expectations for the students' ability to be successful. This has to be conveyed by all who influence the students: parents, teachers and the community.

Property Taxes:

I think that property taxes, especially for the elderly, need to be explored to determine how fees might be limited or regulated to keep the cost of senior property ownership manageable.

Development:

The life blood of a community is the ability to (1) attract new business, and keep the taxes at a minimum in order to keep them  (2) attract tourists (3) be creative in seeking and supporting the development of public transportation routes, bike routes, etc. that makes living in Knox County a pleasure (4) be knowledgeable about long term effects of zoning, ( I served three (3) years on Metropolitan Planning Commission). I know how to balance the expansion of business while protecting the rights of citizens and property owners. (5) support the development of the waterfront and other sections of Knox County outside the 1st District that will make Knox County attractive to residents. (6) keep a finger on the pulse of the community to know needs-consistently seek public input.

Environment:

This is an area that I need to study, but increased convenient public transportation to and form all segments of Knox County would diminish some auto travel--improving the environment.
