About Maurice....

Occupation/ Work: Retired business owner; Real Estate Brokerage; School and Legal Investigations;

Presently: Teacher and Coach at Austin East Magnet High School

Three Reasons to Vote for Maurice.....

  1. Emphasis is placed upon my past 13 years of governmental experience in the State of Michigan.  Based upon my experience, background, education, skills, I believe I can make a difference for the betterment of East Knox County.

  2. I am very cognizant of the ethical obligations impressed upon a public servant and the obligations, responsibilities, and accountability required when one serves in a fiduciary capacity. I am proud of my achievements and accomplishments while serving in a position of trust where benefits and improvements were provided to the constituency of the communities I represented.

  3. I am running for this office to offer the citizenry of Knox County a fresh start and new opportunity to choose someone who is not connected with the recent past history in the election process.  I am not affiliated
    with the old network operation which appears to have destroyed the integrity and honesty in government.  I will restore faith in governance by abiding by ethical standards in open forums; demanding the operation
    of a fiscally responsible government; and assuring that a comprehensive master plan is implemented for the development and controlled growth of the Knox County area.

Maurice's Thoughts On.....

Knox County Schools:

The school system in any community is of vital importance for the growth, development and enhancement of the area. If the school system is not adequately funded and supported by the families existing in the area, and for those who choose this area to live and raise a family, Knox County will not grow and develop, or maintain the integrity to raising proper citizens who are viable and contributing members of our community.

Property Taxes:

Taxes should be maintained at a level to be responsive to the needs of the community. All essential infrastructure services, such as transportation, road improvement, water, sewer, fire and police/ sheriff and safety issues must be provided. Those persons who the public hire to represent them in these duties should be remunerated, but under strict budgetary constraints. As a person in a fiduciary capacity elected to a position of trust, it is fundamental that property taxes do not tax those citizens who have resided here out of existence!

Development:

A key to development is a controlled growth or progress under a very careful watchful eye of the government in place overseeing the process. Indiscriminate and uncontrolled growth and progress must encompass the idea that the community can tolerate same without any ill effects. Knox County under the past administration has not kept abreast of these concerns and was past due on a comprehensive master plan determining what is in the best interest of the community. In order to determine this, proper planners would anticipate whether the community could tolerate the growth proposed; ie., is the infrastructure in place, such as roads, sewers, water access, utilities. Decisions should address areas of concern: agricultural, residential, commercial (heavy and light industrial), retail, office and medical, special services-schools and government offices, and special areas such as parks and recreation. These issues addressed is what makes the community a vital area to live, work, and recreate in.

Environment:

Having been an outdoor recreational person my entire life, with dedication to promoting active and passive recreational amenities, it is crucial that the environment be preserved for such uses. I have dedicated most of my adult life to the creation of parks and recreation areas, including linear parks by the conversion of abandoned railways to trails. I am an avid user of the water-ways as a serious rower and member of the United States Rowing Association, participating in events in Oak Ridge and on the Tennessee River. I live in close proximity to the Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge and promote for Knox County Schools Cross Country Running events. I am a member of the Smoky Mountain National Ski Patrol, volunteering services to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. All of these attractions brought me to reside in Kodak, TN. As an elected government official, I will exercise due diligence in the preservation, enhancement and maintenance of these vital woodlands, wetlands and park areas.
