Three Reasons to Vote for J.J.
1. I
have the vision and leadership abilities necessary to move the sheriff's
office to a new
level.
2. I
have spent my entire adult life preparing for this. Law
enforcement is my career and I've spent most of it at the Knox County
Sheriff's Office rising through the ranks over the past 29 years.
3. I
am on the job every day insuring cooperation with other agencies and
keeping up with the latest technology and resources.
About J.J.... Jimmy “J.J.” Jones became Sheriff on January 31, 2007 serving with distinction until a court decision on October 5, 2007 voided all appointments made that day by the commission. During the last few months, his administration solved a high profile murder, reorganized patrol zones to make response time more efficient, and solved a number of burglaries and robberies. Jones brings 29 years of law enforcement leadership and criminal investigation experience to the office of Sheriff. He started his career with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and during his tenure he served as Patrol Officer, Narcotics Investigator, Detective, Supervisor in both Metro Narcotics and Major Crimes, and Chief of Detectives. As an Assistant Chief of Administration, he worked with the Sheriff and Chief Deputy to resolve personnel issues that arose within the Sheriff’s Office and was involved in decisions regarding hiring and promotions. He was also personally involved in coordinating the response to major crimes both inside and outside Knox County. Jones also worked at the Knoxville Police Department as a Liaison Officer between KPD and the Attorney General’s Office, coordinating the communication between the agencies to ensure prompt and thorough investigation and prosecution. He also served as one of the initial members of the KPD Cold Case Team, which solved two high profile cases from the 1990s that resulted in arrests and convictions. Jones has a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Tennessee and was recognized as the Most Outstanding Graduate Student in the Criminal Justice graduating class. He has also completed numerous Specialized Law Enforcement training classes and courses. “My commitment is to continue the professional law enforcement service that Knox County residents are accustomed to, said Sheriff Jones. The safety of our citizens is my first priority.”
