 About Matthew.....

Occupation/ Work: juvenile probation officer

I am 29 years old and I am a juvenile probation officer at the Knox County Juvenile Court.

Three reasons to vote for Matthew....

  1. My children are my motivation for seeking this office and I will allow nothing to compromise my integrity in the eyes of my children or my family.  You can guarantee I will never be afraid to do what is right, even if what is right is not the most popular option.

  2. My vote will be the people’s vote.  I will reach out to the citizens of the 6th district on every vote by bringing back public forum to make myself available to my district before each commission meeting.  This will give the people the opportunity to bring their concerns to me and to express their position on upcoming commission business.

  3. I will not be bias due to fear of not being re-elected.  Becoming a Knox County Commissioner is not a career goal for me; it is simply another way for me to serve the people.  My passion is to help those in need and make Knox County as a whole a better place to be.  I want this opportunity to serve, do my duty as a concerned citizen and motivated leader, and move on with my life, giving others that same opportunity to serve.  I will not run for re-election unless the people of the 6th district approve of me doing so.

 Matthew's thoughts on….

Knox County Schools:

This county’s most valuable resource is it children and their education must be our focus.  Funding that is wasted within our government on travel allowances, meals, hospitality, and ridiculously high salaries for government officials should be funneled back into our school systems.  We can have the best school system in the country if we support it, and encourage all to get involved.

Property Taxes:

I paid nearly $700.00   in property tax last year.  Is it possible that if thousands upon thousands of taxpayer dollars weren’t carelessly squandered that we might have the ability within this county to cut taxes instead of inventing new ones?  I say yes.  We are taxing our people to death to insure the continued preferred lifestyles of our government officials.  When I am elected this will stop and any questionable expenditures will be addressed.  We can no longer sit aside and allow this to take place.

Development:

I am supporter of “controlled development”.  I of course, understand that all areas of Knox County must grow, and will grow, but I also do not wish the small community feel of the 6th district to be dulled by extreme commercial and residential development.  The people will decide, because although I will gladly work as a mediator between any prospective developer and the people of my district to hopefully come to agreeable terms, I will not vote against those whom I represent.  Without opposition growth will have my support.

Environment:

Knox County is making great strides in preserving East Tennessee’s greenways and parks and I am very much in support of continued progress by doing our part to embrace our natural resources.  We live in a region that is recognized as one of the most beautiful in this land.  We have been given a wonderful gift we should all be proud of and we should show our appreciation by doing all we can to preserve this immaculate landscape.
