My name is Ruthie Kuhlman and I am running for County Commission, District 4A.  I am a native Knoxvillian who was taught at an early age that you are to give back to the community where you live.  I have tried to do that throughout my adult life.  However, I believe it is time to do more.  That is why I am a candidate for County Commission District 4A.

About Ruthie....

Three Reasons to Vote for Ruthie....

  1. I decided to run for County Commission because the citizens of Knox County deserve better representation.  We deserve someone who will work for us and our interests.  We deserve an open and honest government.  We must eliminate nepotism in County Government.  We deserve someone who can not be bought by special interest groups.  A County Commissioner who will have the interest of the people of Knox County, first and foremost, is our right.  I will be that Commissioner.  I will listen to, and work through county issues.  I will hold monthly meetings with not only District 4, but anyone who wants to attend.  I will listen to our citizens and see what needs to be done.  I want to be available to the citizens of Knox County who have elected me.

  2. I believe in improving education and school funding.  There is nothing more important than our children’s education and the Teachers who provide it.  We must look closely at the budget and make sure that the money, our tax dollars, is properly and efficiently spent.  My main concern is making sure our children are getting trained for when they leave high school.  Not every child goes to college.  We must provide training for our children who don’t continue on to college so that they can have a productive career, provide a living for their families and contribute to our community.   In order to attract new industry, Knox County must offer the best in public education.

  3. We need to examine the waste that has gone on in the County Government.  Audits should be completed and made public.  We can then avoid further waste of Knox County taxes.  I will be a prudent steward of Knox County tax dollars and efficiently use this money in order to avoid any tax increase for Knox County citizens. Development and environmental issues must be addressed with citizen input.  As County Commissioner, I will listen to our engineering experts on issues such as storm water.  Knox County is a beautiful place to live and we can grow by listening to the experts we already have in place, listening to neighborhood groups and finally listening to our hearts to determine what is best for all of us.

Ruthie's Thoughts On......

Knox County Schools:

Knox County Schools have lots of talented teachers, administrators and students.  We must capture this talent and continue to improve each schools performance.  An area close to my heart is to improve programs for non-college bound students.  Prepare them to make a good living and to be good citizens.

 Property Taxes:

Property taxes are high enough.  We must stop the misspending and abuses of our tax dollars.  If we re-direct this money to education, safe neighborhoods and programs for the elderly, the entire county will prosper, without any increase in taxes.

 Development:

Development is an important issue.  Knox County will continue to grow as others discover the beauty of our County.  Development should not be funded by County Government or the use of TIFS.  Developers must adhere to all requirements, especially storm water.  New neighborhoods should not threaten mature neighborhoods.

Environment:

The very reason many people live in Knox County is our natural beauty.  This beautiful environment must be protected.  New development must be responsible for changes in terrain, traffic, and congestion that may occur as the result of growth.

Knox County is a wonderful place to raise a family.  We live in a beautiful, affordable, intellectual community.  Let’s build on what we have and do that by open and honest government, great schools and development that are appropriate.
