About Don....

Three Reasons to Vote for Don......

  1. Education. I have a law degree from the University of Tenn. and a B. S. in Political Science.

  2. Experience. I practiced law in Knoxville for 10 years prior to joining my wife in the restaurant business. We have operated a successful small business for over 26 years.

  3. Willingness. I have the commitment to undertake this job to the best of my abilities.

Don's Thoughts On....

Knox County Schools:

I feel we have very good schools and excellent teachers in our county. I recently had the opportunity to talk with Dr. Roy Mullins, the acting superintendent, and Dr. Bob Thomas, assistant superintendent. As long as Knox County Commission continues to fund the schools at the highest level possible we will continue to have great schools.

Property Taxes:

We have a reasonable tax rate in Knox County. To keep it at that level we have to continually strive for efficiency in county spending. But we have to keep in mind that as more and more services are requested more funding is necessary, so we will need to continue to grow our tax base through intelligent development.

    Development:

As just noted controlled development is essential to the growth of our tax base. With the revenue in Knox County dependant on the sales tax and property tax the property in our county needs to appreciate in value.

Environment:

This is a crucial issue everywhere. We need to take all possible steps to protect the beautiful area in which we live . I was pleased when through cooperation between the City and County a new recycle center opened on State Street. Now my downtown store can start a major recycling effort as our Crosspark store has been doing for sometime.
