 Walt's Thoughts On...

Knox County Schools:

Knox County Schools and especially those in the 4 th commission district are currently providing a good academic education to our children.  However, it takes more than academics to provide a great education for our kids.  We seem to be sacrificing the Art, Music and Athletics in an effort to control expenditures.  Our schools need to be properly funded and the extra-curricular programs need to be protected.

Property Taxes:

Property taxes don’t need to go up.  If there is anything that we have learned about County Government over the last 6 months is that there is considerable waste and unchecked spending.  We need to take control of the purse strings.

 Development:

Development for the sake of Development is wrong.  We need good sound development driven by free enterprise.  One thing that I have learned in the business world over the years is that when development is necessary and makes financial sense there will be a line of business men and women eager to carry it out.

 Environment:

I believe the biggest problem relative to the environment in Knox County is the selective enforcement of the current County, City, State and Federal regulations.  We need to make developers and manufacturers follow through.
